1. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation of the National Unity Government (MoNREC-NUG) is planning to implement Public-centred resource federalism in order to build a safe environment and prosperous society for the socio-economic development and the wellbeing of the people living in Myanmar.
2. The Ayeyarwady River is a lifeblood and important national heritage not only for Kachin State but also for Myanmar and her people. It is critical to maintain the ecosystem of Myitsone and Maykha Malikha rivers for the sound ecological health of Ayeyarwady River.
3. The construction project of Myitsone Dam in Myitsone’s upper basin will have a negative impact on the environment, social and cultural value of the people and thus the will of the indigenous people must be considered. Hence, the ministry will stand for the will of indigenous people, considering the voices of people in implementing development projects.
4. Therefore, the MONREC-NUG urges the concerned parties involved in the Myitsone Project to follow the will of the indigenous people. The NUG, as the people’s government, will prioritize the desire and will of the people in the management of natural resources.
