Following the previous analysis, the resources were largely depleted during the military regimes. Several attempts were made to assess the deforestation in Myanmar by MONREC-NUG, despite several limitations and challenges amidst the turmoil.

As a pilot, the MONREC-NUG technical team initiated to assess the deforestation alerts in Sagaing Region by using Global Forest Watch (GFW) platform. According to the findings, a total of 22607 deforestation alerts were found during the study period (February 1, 2021 to 13 October 2022) in Sagaing Region.

Most of the deforestation alerts were observed in the central part of the Region in both protected areas and reserved forests.

With the help of these spatial and temporal alert information, the respective administrative bodies could hopefully tackle the deforestation and damage the forests in their areas after assessing the direct and indirect causes on the ground.

At the end of this report, we provide some recommendations, based on our findings, to MONREC-NUG, NGO/INGOs, CSOs/CBOs, and local communities to manage their forests collaboratively.

Monitoring Deforestation Alerts During the Coup in Myanmarဒေါင်းလုပ်ပြုလုပ်ရန်

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This short research report is the output of the capacity building training on monitoring the deforestation alerts which was conducted as a pilot case in Sagaing Region, Myanmar.
